Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

As we approach the end of 2011, let’s take time to reflect back on our accomplishments, and positive events.

While preparing for the year end holiday, start to list the positive things that you experienced during the year. If you are planning a family gathering, encourage holiday guests to create their lists of happy events and accomplishments. Before dinner allow each guest two or three minutes to share his or her story. Not only is this a great way to create a pleasant family gathering, but it will light up the table with positive, continuous conversation. Spontaneous conversation will ward off the awkward silence, which sometimes leaves an opening for bad humor. Additionally, new family members and friends, will feel as though they’ve known each other forever.

The sharing is guaranteed to make your neighbors wish that they were having what you’re having; the day will surely end on a happy note. Some family members may have forgotten how much they had accomplished in one year; others will be elated when they realize what an impact their contributions have made on the family structure.

Another way to focus on the positive is to stop holding back the compliments; it is time to start acknowledging each other’s gifts. Rebuilding the family’s self-esteem is a major step toward inspiring our youth.

Each of us has the power to help build and maintain a better society—let’s start within our families.

Happy Holidays!!
